Pearl practices law and teaches Civil Liberties at McGill University's Faculty of Law.  
 
Background
 
Before her current position, Pearl held senior positions in both the Ontario and federal governments. 

She was Senior Research Director of the Policy Research Initiative (formerly an initiative of the Privy Council Office). Before that, she served between 1995-2001 as Director of Policy and Education at the Ontario Human Rights Commission. 
 
She began her legal career at a national law firm in the areas of litigation and immigration law.

She has appeared before the Quebec Superior Court, the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Canada.

Pearl is past President of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation (now Equitas) and has extensive experience in community service organizations and with a major Canadian philanthropic organization.
